![]() ![]() Has anyone thought about how the poor Mercury dealers felt during the T-Bird’s heyday? What was Ford doing selling such an upscale and exclusive car anyway, especially when it sported the optional (and popular) Landau package? Sucks to be them, then and more recently. And the T-Bird practically owned the market segment it created, for way longer than GM would have liked, despite everything they threw at it. ![]() McNamara made the right call when he backed the big change to four-passenger Birds in 1958. The big Birds outsold the ‘Vette by almost ten to one. And it was about as sporty as they were, but who cared? The T-Bird had long ago ceded that role to the Corvette, while it was laughing all the way to the bank. It evoked the classic roadsters of the thirties, with their long tails and no pretense of practicality. Of course it was a bit ridiculous, but don’t tell that to an eleven year-old agog, or the proud driver. Available for 19, the fiberglass cover over the rear seats was meant to evoke the original two-seat T-Bird. The highlight of my fling with the 61-63 T-Bird came when we were on vacation in NY, and I saw a red Sports Roadster in the flesh for the first time (there were none in Iowa City). I guess the public didn’t quite agree with me, because the Square Bird outsold the Bullet Bird, right through its last year (1960). They impressed me on some level, the interior, mainly, but I though their front ends looked like a hideous creature from the depths of the ocean. I have mixed feelings about Ford’s late fifties styling, and that extended to the 1958 – 1960 “Square Bird”, regardless of how revolutionary a car it was. Was 1961 Ford’s finest hour, at least for a very long time to come? In my book, yes. The American Dream has never been a static affair. In my dream driveway, the T-Bird was were replaced by an ever changing palette of GM’s finest. ![]() Mark of Excellence, and my brief childhood love affair with Ford was mostly over. The squared-off, fussy 1964 T-Bird confirmed my defection to the Church of St. Just three years later, both the stunning 1961-1963 “Bullet Bird” and Kennedy were gone. Yes, in the fall of 1960, Ford was building my dream. In America anyone could realistically aspire to own a car that actually looked like a Dream Car in a car show, one that would glamorously jet you away from the humdrum of ordinary life, if not exactly rocket you to the moon. What more was there to aspire to then this? Seeing fifty of these convertibles in Kennedy’s Inaugural Parade only cemented the image. (first posted ) What exactly is the American Dream? Was it easier to answer that question fifty years ago? If you were seven years old, and had just arrived from Austria at the same time the 1961 Thunderbird first appeared, the answer is definitely yes. ![]()

![]() ![]() That was when he first met Cheetara (having blushed when meeting her), she asked where she could find the Cleric's domain, wishing to join. As Tygra got older, he was assigned his first ever military function, a job at guard post. Tygra remembered the day as when he lost everything he ever really wanted: his Mother and his Kingdom. Unfortunately the queen died in giving birth to Lion-O. Though he was loved dearly by the pair, the first hint of jealousy toward Lion-O was sparked when Claudus and his wife told him they were expecting a child, and the queen stopped calling him her "handsome little prince." Claudus and his wife adopted him, taking it as a sign from the gods, and declared him as a prince of Thundera.for a time. The balloon was sent off by Javan, Tygra's biological father, who refused to kill his son at the request of the Ancient Spirits in order to save his Village from a devastating Plague. Tygra appeared as an infant cub in Thundera, floating on a descending hot air balloon into the courtyard of Claudus. Tygra as a baby (episode: Native Son Cursed Birth & Royal Thunderian Adoption Tygra also has a flirtatious side as well which can be seen when he winks at Cheetara in a more than friendly manner, having always loved her since childhood and despite his loyalty, Tygra also has shown to be quite stubborn when proven wrong, not giving up in a fight and not being told where to go (example: Song of the Petalars, when Tygra wanted to fight the lizards instead of running away, and Native Son, when Lion-O said that they were lost and Tygra argued that he never gets lost when it's obvious they were). He has also showed a somewhat sympathetic nature towards the Thunderkittens when he urged Lion-O to let WilyKit and WilyKat join them. Tygra also has a sense of loyalty towards his family since childhood, despite his early resentments against them, which can be seen when he knocked Lion-O into the Forbidden Ruins as a child, but immediately went to find help, or having Lion-O's back when Lion-O stood up against the Thunderans' treatment of the lizards or when making peace with Lion-O when entering the Astral Plane. However Tygra has shown to be mature as well, when he obeyed Lion-O's orders without disrespect. He was also quite offended when Lion-O declared that when he became king, he hoped that he'd be nothing like him. He often displayed feelings of jealousy and resentment toward his younger brother and originally felt he was better suited to be king. Tygra can be cocky and arrogant at times (In Curse of Ratilla, he claimed to be "right about everything"). Though his personal fighting style tends to be stealthy and disciplined, his style of command is generally blunt and forceful. Tygra is also a trained military tactician, having studied military strategy under King Claudus. Tygra has shown to be a skilled unarmed combatant and swordsman as well as enjoying tinkering with the handheld blaster he took from one of the lizards. It's undetermined if the rifle was a weapon confiscated from the lizards or yet another gift from the Berbils. Tygra is seen using a sniper-type rifle to protect Cheetara in New Alliances. He also uses an energy pistol as his weapon and shows great accuracy with it. Tygra has the ability to render himself invisible with his whip, likely some form of magic. Like the rest of the Cats, his foot coverings essentially leave him barefoot, capable of using his claws for climbing or traction. He is seen wearing two outfits, a blue outfit and green armor, though he is usually wearing the green armor when in combat. ![]() He has red-orange fur with black stripes and white areas. In this case, the IQs of 136 and 141 are greater than the upper adjacent value and are thus deemed as outliers. Its a one-stop solution for quickly generating a box plot and. Enter a list of numbers, and the calculator will sort the numbers and compute the minimum, maximum, lower and upper whiskers, median, interquartile range, first and third quartiles, and any outliers. In general, values that fall outside of the adjacent value region are deemed outliers. Our Box Plot Calculator offers a seamless and intuitive way to generate box plots. Therefore, the upper adjacent value is 128, because 128 is the highest observation still inside the region defined by the upper bound of 131. Therefore, in this case, the lower adjacent value turns out to be the same as the minimum value, 68, because 68 is the lowest observation still inside the region defined by the lower bound of 67. In this example, the lower limit is calculated as \(Q1-1.5\times IQR=91-1.5(16)=67\). The adjacent values are defined as the lowest and highest observations that are still inside the region defined by the following limits: For a modified box plot, the whiskers are the lines that extend from the left and right of the box to the adjacent values. In a modified box plot, the box is drawn just as in a standard box plot, but the whiskers are defined differently. A box plot is constructed from five values: the minimum value, the first quartile, the median, the third quartile, and the maximum value. They also show how far the extreme values are from most of the data. How come Minitab's box plot looks different than our box plot? Well, by default, Minitab creates what is called a modified box plot. Box plots (also called box-and-whisker plots or box-whisker plots) give a good graphical image of the concentration of the data. A box plot (aka box and whisker plot) uses boxes and lines to depict the distributions of one or more groups of numeric data. Note, for example, that the horizontal length of the box is the interquartile range IQR, the left whisker represents the first quarter of the data, and the right whisker represents the fourth quarter of the data. For the right whisker, draw a horizontal line from the maximum value to the midpoint of the right side of the box.ĭrawn as such, a box plot does a nice job of dividing the data graphically into fourths. For the left whisker, draw a horizontal line from the minimum value to the midpoint of the left side of the box.Draw a vertical line connecting the lower and upper horizontal lines of the box at the median \(m\).Above the axis, draw a rectangular box with the left side of the box at the first quartile \(q_1\) and the right side of the box at the third quartile \(q_3\).Draw a horizontal axis scaled to the data. Here are some general guidelines for drawing a box plot: One nice way of graphically depicting a data set's five-number summary is by way of a box plot (or box-and-whisker plot). These three percentiles, along with a data set's minimum and maximum values, make up what is called the five-number summary. This contains the middle 50% of the data and is helpful for visualizing the spread of the data set.On the last page, we learned how to determine the first quartile, the median, and the third quartile for a sample of data. It is certainly between the minimum and maximum and likely to be between the median and the upper quartile if the distribution is right skewed and between the median and the lower quartile if the distribution is left skewed. ![]() The IQR is the range between the first quartile and the third quartile. A more common name is box-and-whisker plot, or just box plot. The Interquartile Range (IQR): The box in a box plot represents the interquartile range of the data set. This can be useful for gaining insight into the minimum and maximum values within a certain range. These lines represent the range of the data without the outliers. Whiskers: The box plot's " whiskers " are the lines extending from either side of the box.Maximum score: This is the highest data point in the data set once outliers have been excluded.Upper percentile: Also known as the third quartile or 75th percentile, this is the median of the upper half of the data set.Lower percentile: Also known as the first quartile or 25th percentile, this is the median of the lower half of the data set. This number is important because it indicates the central tendency of the data set. The median is the middle value of the data set when the values are lined up in order. Median: The line inside the box indicates the median of a data set.Minimum score: The minimum score is the lowest data point that excludes any outliers. ![]() ![]() ![]() Regmaglypts are formed during the atmospheric entry of the meteoroid. The term “regmaglypt” comes from the Greek words for “rake” (regma) and “carve” (glypt). They are often described as thumbprint-like depressions or scoops. Regmaglypts are shallow indentations or cavities seen on the surface of some meteorites, specifically on the aerodynamic shielded side of iron and stony-iron meteorites. It’s the most telling sign that what you have found may very well be a real meteorite.Ĥth Identification Test: Does it have regmaglypts on its surface? The presence of a fusion crust indicates that the object in question has indeed passed through Earth’s atmosphere at very high speed, distinguishing it from terrestrial rocks. As highlighted by Professor Chris Herd in this video presentation, it can even appear slightly flaky, potentially exposing the underlying meteorite surface upon gentle scratching. The fusion crust is typically black or dark in color and can be smooth or irregular in texture. This heat causes the outer layer of the meteoroid to melt and vaporize, creating a thin, glassy or crust-like layer on its surface. When a meteoroid enters the Earth’s atmosphere at high speed, it experiences intense heat due to air friction. Meteorites often have a thin, black, or dark brown outer crust called a fusion crust. This underscores the importance of adopting alternative techniques, like susceptibility meters, to assess meteorites.ģrd Identification Test: Does it have a Fusion Crust? The research also found that even the most ancient Martian meteorites have been subject to this magnetic memory loss. This erasure occurs because magnets overwrite the records of their parent body’s magnetic field. It’s important to be cautious when using magnets for meteorite identification, as a recent study revealed that this approach can inadvertently erase valuable scientific data contained within these celestial rocks. If the meteorite contains enough iron-nickel metal, it will attract the magnet and it will possibly stick to the specimen. ![]() To test the meteorite, you can simply use a fridge magnet to check for attraction. While meteorites themselves are not naturally magnetic, the majority of them contain some iron-nickel metal, which inherently will attract a magnetic object. Let’s go to the next test.Ģnd Identification Test: Does a magnet stick to it? ![]() If the resulting density is significantly greater than the typical density of terrestrial rocks (around 3 g/mL), especially approaching or exceeding 8 g/mL, it increases the likelihood that the rock is a meteorite. To conduct a more precise density test, measure the rock’s mass using a scale and determine its volume using an appropriate method, such as the water displacement method.Ĭalculate the density using the formula: Density (ρ) = Mass (m) / Volume (V). If it feels notably heavier for its size, it could be a promising candidate. To gauge whether a rock might be a meteorite, you can begin by assessing its weight in your hand. Terrestrial rocks tend to have a density around 3 grams per milliliter (g/mL), whereas iron meteorites, in particular, can have a density around 8 g/mL.
